In recent days, the Chatham-Kent Police has received three complaints from citizens advising about a telephone scam that appears to be new to the Chatham-Kent area.
The caller identifies themselves as a representative from Microsoft and asks the citizen to follow their directions to fix a problem with their computer.
Microsoft states, “We do not send unsolicited e-mail or make unsolicited phone calls to request personal or financial information or fix your computer. If you receive an unsolicited e-mail message or phone call that purports to be from Microsoft and requests that you send personal information or click links, delete the e-mail or hang up the phone.”
The Chatham-Kent Police reminds citizens to never provide personal information to an unsolicited caller.
